'Tis the season...

  • WCPSS Core Belief #5:
  • "The Board of Education, superintendent, and all staff value a diverse school community that is inviting, respectful, inclusive, flexible, and supportive."
  • This time of year, we enjoy celebrating together and many times that includes having learning experiences that allow students to share how they celebrate in their homes.  This time of year lends itself easily to that. I encourage us to extend that sentiment beyond the holiday season to incorporate diverse perspectives into the discourse around learning all year long It may not be in the form of posters or presentations, but instead be accomplished through more open ended questions that allow for a variety of responses. Students sharing their thinking about a question or problem is an easy way to honor their backgrounds and experiences.
  • Through our School Improvement Plan we are focusing on  family engagement. Being intentional about inclusivity of different backgrounds and perspectives is a great way to help families feel like   part of the classroom community.
