Remember that the standards serve as the road map that guides our work. Last year we spent a significant amount of time and effort on unpacking. That work does not stop. As you saw in the beginning of the year, there have been changes in the standards which will be reflected for upper grades in the EOG assessments this year. Although these differences seem subtle, even the smallest changes can necessitate a change in classroom assessments and instructional tasks. It is important to clearly understand what the standard is asking students to know or be able to do before you can craft an assessment that will accurately tell you if they have mastered it.
K-5 the standards align. Students need to enter your classroom ready to master standards for your grade level and they should enter the next grade level ready to master those standards. To that end it is helpful to follow a strand from one grade to the next. Below is an example.
